linda brant with her art work, 2011

Linda Brant is a licensed psychologist, artist and sculptor, based in Orlando Florida.  She balances her full time work as a psychologist with a creative life in the arts.  Linda creates both 2D and 3D work, ranging from watercolor paintings that incorporate clay from crystal mines to original bronze and steel sculptures. Universal concepts such as freedom, change and choices, are depicted in many of her pieces.

"I love stories," Brant says, "Many of my pieces are inspired by literature and expressed through motifs found in nature Somerset Maugham, Hermann Hesse, Jack Kerouac and Carlos Castaneda are among my favorite writers.  Crushed rocks, dried leaves, insects, tree bark, glass fragments and spider webs have all been sources of inspiration to me.  I use interesting ideas, feelings, experiences - even dreams - as a starting point for creating imaginative and expressive images."

Brant's work ranges from small, carefully planned, symmetrical mandalas to large abstracts with broad sweeping lines.  Her sculptural works are a blend of found objects and highly polished, small bronze figures. "The smallness of the figures relative to the overall framework is for me, a commentary on the relative insignificance of man/woman in the universe.  We are truly grains of sand on a vast ocean; yet, each individual life has meaning, purpose and a beauty all its own."

Brant's approach to both painting and sculpture have changed as her skills have developed.  "More and more," Brant says, "I find myself beginning pieces without much of a plan in mind.  I put something down, step back, then try to take the lead from the piece itself.  It is sort of like having a conversation.  As an artist, my task is to let go and remain open and receptive to the emerging work."
